Let’s Talk About It— Day 21 of 30Guests in 30Days

Three things you shouldn't lose this week; your faith, your courage, and your smile. Happy new week. It's Day 21🎉

James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, writes a weekly newsletter titled “3-2-1” which contains 3 ideas from him, 2 quotes from others, and 1

question for you. I will borrow a leaf from the structure of the newsletter in my writing here.

3 ideas from me, 2 quotes from others, and 1 question for you.

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I.

On Prioritization:

The ability to prioritize your time, to-do list and action is a top skill. 24 hours does not seem enough. To maximize your time and reduce excuses in your life you make it a habit to give order to the things you want to do daily, weekly or seasonally.

The most dangerous items on your to-do list are the ones that look like opportunities but are actually distractions. Reassess your to-do lists and remove junks from them.

It is easy to veer off your to-do list, either by spending too much time on a distraction or a task, you can jack yourself in line by being mindful of your priorities and timing them.

In the long run, prioritization beats efficiency.

II.

On Handling Distractions:

Life presents an endless series of interruptions and distractions. It is really difficult to obliterate distractions from your life, some distractions are legitimate and need to be attended to.

To get the best of yourself, your work, your time and attain great potential you need to have a mastery of handling distractions and harness the power of focus.

Everyone gets distracted. The difference is between people who get back on track right away and others who allow the disruptions to expand into longer periods of inactivity.

Depending on the level of work required, the magnitude of the task at hand or the prospective reward, you should know when to reduce distractions and when to shut out distractions.

Focus is a superpower, it will be difficult to beat someone who is less distracted than you are.

III.

Be patient.

Be patient with yourself.

2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS

I.

James Clear on building better habits,

“New goals don’t deliver new results. New lifestyles do.

And a lifestyle is not an outcome,  it is a process. For this reason, all your energy should go into building better habits, not chasing better results”

II.

Tim Grover was the athletic trainer used by Michael Jordan (and many elite NBA players). Here he is describing the three things he asks of every player:

“I don’t care how much you can lift, how fast you can run, how many pull-ups you can do, or whether you can hit a three while blindfolded. There are only three things I ask of every client… Show up, work hard, and listen. That’s it. It requires no talent, no special genetics, or any skill whatsoever to show up, work hard, and listen.”

He adds:

“When I train my athletes, it’s a dictatorship with three rules: show up, work hard, and listen. If you can do those three things, I can help you. If you can't, we have no use for each other. I will bust my ass for you every way possible, but I expect you to do the same for yourself. I’m not going to work harder than you do for your benefit. Show me you want it, and I’ll give it to you.”

1 QUESTION FOR YOU

In managing, maximizing and multiplying your finances, there is just one answer to this question.

Do I have a revenue problem?

Or

Do I have a spending problem?
